The Gideon Production Group

During the production of their first episode, they were constantly bombarded with unforeseeable mishaps. Scenes were deleted, the audio kept “popping”, the quantity of pictures overwhelmed our card reader, and the computer constantly crashed.  The production took a lot longer than anticipated and, in their mind, they thought they would never reach their goal in finishing it by the festival deadline. Throughout the entire month, they did nothing else but sleep, eat, and breathe the film. “We were constantly on our faces, seeking God’s direction and wisdom. Should we push ourselves and finish the movie? Should we slow down and submit it next year? What was the purpose of all these mishaps? What was God trying to teach us?”Jessica was not the only one who struggled with these doubts.

Then, one afternoon, Anthony sat down on a folding chair and told them what God had impressed upon his heart. He reminded us of Gideon and his army in Judges chapter 7. Gideon had a multitude of soldiers willing and ready to fight on the Lord’s behalf. God saw the hearts of the men and knew that if He allowed them to do it on their own strength, they would see it as such and would rely on themselves rather than on Him. So he reduced the number to a third of the host, and, again, Israel still had too many people to completely trust the Lord and do everything in His strength alone. Out of that third, God called 300 men--an impossible number in the sight of man. In the end, the Lord won the battle and strengthened the nation’s faith in Him.

Anthony explained that it seemed God was taking away the days of our production like He had taken the men away from Gideon. He wanted us to completely trust in HIm and do everything in His strength. He wanted to show us how He could bless the efforts of His children when they surrender everything to Him. At that moment our entire family gave the whole production to God, trusting Him to complete the project and bless it in whatever way He desired.

In producing these films and interviewing fellow Christian filmmakers, we have seen how God uses film productions to expose idols in our lives and draw us closer to Him and His children.
